dancing with the devil

Time was moving fast and so was my new X-rated career. When it all began I had panicked about my debut and had also been pretty worried about how I was going to look on film. Would people really like me? My insecurities had me asking myself if folks would get turned on from watching me and if they would they think I was sexy. I loved what I was doing but I simply wasn’t ready to have people criticize my skills. Yet as I watched the money pile up even though my movies weren’t even on the market yet, I knew I had something special. Properly prepping me for the life, over the next several months, Aaron booked me for photo shoots and feature dancing at places like the famous Show Girl World on Forty-Second Street in the heart of Times Square. Needless to say, with all of the indulging I was doing, I quickly became fully acclimated in the world of porn.

As my underground popularity grew, I desperately wanted to share my secret with someone, but my roomies were always either working or hanging out with their new boyfriends, leaving me alone and with no one to talk to. Keeping the secret was starting to stress me out. I tried to relax myself with weed and these miraculous foot reflexology treatments that my girl Mercedes, down at my favorite herbal shop, turned me on to, but I still longed to spill the beans.

Before I knew it, I had seven movies under my hat. My shyness and curiosity had disappeared like the T-Rex, and at the age of nineteen, I was living a lifestyle most could only dream of. I went on shopping sprees almost every other day and decked the brownstone out with new furniture. I still had not told Ebony and Jessie the truth about what I was doing, but since I insisted on paying all the rent, they didn’t ask any questions. There was a part of me, however, that envied my friends and their carefree lives. They had steady boyfriends, took weekend trips, and worked at jobs that didn’t require them to be in character at all times, and as much as I loved the money I was making, I still longed to be in love. But that wasn’t my life. No. My life consisted of professional freaks, sex addicts, and lots of cash, and while I enjoyed the cash, it was the other two I could really do without.

Loaded down with bags from Gucci and Bloomingdale’s, I kicked my front door closed behind me and dropped my shopping bags onto the kitchen table. It was my first free weekend in a while and I was hoping to spend an evening with my girls just shooting the breeze—maybe drink a little, smoke a little, and order a little Chinese. But a note on a piece of loose-leaf paper greeted me as I headed toward the refrigerator.

“Simone,” it said. “We know we were supposed to hang out tonight but Carmen got us a free hookup to go to Virginia Beach.
